This work was I developed during the Art Like Salt residency at Taepyung Salt Farm, one of South Korea's largest salt farms on the remote island of Jeungdo. A tender shift of Matter interprets the site-specific characteristics of this island. The main resources are earth and sea water – both valuable and essential components of the island life that shape the everyday life of the locals. The earth provides fertile soil for agriculture and the sea has a major role in the production of sea salt. The fishing industry is also an important source of income. The presence of time is omnipresent on Jeungdo. The rhythm of the tidal forces reveals a constant change of coming and going, presence and absence. The installation changes the balance over time: the seawater drips out of the plastic bag into the riverbed and evaporates and the clay cracks and dries. This work was also part of my exhibition „Reflections on Ephemeral Presence“.
